Lindy Hop Workshop: First Stops & Mama Lu Parks

This workshop is focused on taking inspiration from the Mama Lu Parks and the Mama Lu Parks Dancers who kept dancing lindy hop in New York after the Savoy Ballroom closed. They danced and performed many black vernacular dances in addition to dominating in the lindy hop portion of the Harvest Moon Ball. We will be learning the First Stops routine – a frequent finale in their show – and incorporating elements from the routine as well as their dance ethos into our social dancing and jam spotlights.
Prerequisites:
Lindy 1 (or equivalent) and comfort with partnered Charleston.
Ezra Weill, currently based in Brussels, is a seasoned lindy hop performer and a member of the Jazz Maniacs.
Frances Wolfe is a resident Lindy Hop instructor at the Century Ballroom.
