What is Lindy Hop?

Lindy Hop is one of the original Swing dances, made famous in the ballrooms of Harlem. Danced to a wide range of tempos, the music is traditionally big band Swing from the golden era of Jazz. Lindy Hop is characterized as a happy dance. Improvisation and rhythmical play are tied to Lindy Hop’s styling and spirit.

Listed below are the Lindy Hop classes we offer. We don’t always offer every class, so make sure to check the Class Schedule to see what is offered each session.

Class Instructors: 

Classes we offer

Prerequisite: No dance experience required.

Learn the basic rhythms and movements of Lindy Hop, using 6 count rhythms and movements as they relate to the history of this great dance.

Prerequisite: completion of Intro to Swing, comfortable with 6-count pattern and basic 6-count moves and turns.

Learn the basic rhythms and movements of Lindy Hop, including 8 count and incorporating 6 count rhythms, swing out variations, and the history of this great dance. 

Prerequisites: Completion of Intro to Swing and Lindy Hop 1. Comfortable moving through and between 6- and 8-count patterns on the social floor and a variety of tempos. 

(Lindy Hop 2a, 2b, 2c and 2d can be taken in either order or concurrently.)

Lindy Hop 2a:  Introduction to Charleston movement, including partnered and solo Charleston movements, variations and stylings.

Lindy Hop 2b:  Explore more Lindy Hop moves and rhythms, including classic moves from the original dancers and our favorite Lindy Hop moves and stylings!

Lindy Hop 2c:  

Lindy Hop 2d:  

Prerequisites: Completion of Intro to Swing, Lindy Hop 1, 2A, and 2B. Comfortable moving through and between 6- and 8-count patterns on the social floor at a variety of tempos. Comfortable knowledge of Charleston, sugar pushes, and multiple kinds of swing outs.
