Learn the signature Lindy Hop style of Dean Collins and Jewel McGowan! In this three hour workshop, you’ll learn their distinct style of swing out, some of their signature moves and stylings, and of course, Jewel’s breathtaking swivels!
A bit of background…
In the late 1930s, Dean Collins moved from New York (through New Orleans) to Los Angeles bringing his own unique brand of Lindy Hop he honed in the Savoy Ballroom. In LA, he met Jewel McGowan, a local swing dancer, and together they blended Dean’s dynamic lindy with Jewel’s elegant and circular swing styling. His powerful swingout and her swivels became a thing of beauty. These social dancers turned professional for the cameras of numerous Hollywood films from the 1940s onward. They were dance partners for 11 years and they appeared together in eleven movies including “Buck Privates”, “Springtime in the Rockies” and “Living It Up”. In addition to their social dancing, they appeared together as dancers in other films of the era. They were also in the documentary “In The Kingdom of Swing” on Benny Goodman.
