Walk-throughs before each dance, no experience needed! 21+ $7 As seen in The Seattle Times and on YouTube Based in Seattle, Washington, The Tallboys are a four piece old time string band well-versed in traditional fiddle tunes and mountain songs. They stay honest to their traditional inspirations, yet charge up their sound with a raw edge of gritty enthusiasm conjured from their years of street performing. The Tallboys consistently deliver exciting stage performances and hard-driving dance tunes. Talented vocalists, The Tallboys all share the singing, and their harmonies create a beautifully authentic old time sound. The instrumental line-up begins with Joe Fulton, from Iowa, who has been playing since boyhood. His impressive fiddling leads the melody. Charlie Beck, from Indiana, plays both clawhammer and three-finger style banjo and brings over a decade of musical experience to the band. He is also a talented songwriter, creating several original compositions. Longtime musician John Hurd, from Oregon, lays down that driving bass foundation essential to The Tallboys' rhythm. Charmaine Slaven, from Montana, fills out the sound with solid rhythm guitar and is one of the finest buckdancers on the west coast. She also has the unique ability to dance and play guitar simultaneously. Together, they blend the attributes of each instrument and vocalist, creating a cohesive sound. |

Sunday 8/15/10 THE SEATTLE LINDY EXCHANGE CLOSING DANCE LIVE SWING w/ CRYTZER'S BLUE RHYTHM BAND 9:30p-12:30a Dance All Ages Tickets only available through THE SEATTLE LINDY EXCHANGE - Have you registered yet? The Blue Rhythm Band was founded in 2008 for Seattle's "Harvest Moon Ball." The group is comprised of some of the finest jazz musicians in the Pacific Northwest and is one of only a handful of professional big bands in the U.S. focused solely on the music of the swing era (late 20's-early 40's). This 13 piece line up (the size band that predominated the popular music scene in the 1930's) plays charts from the Jimmie Lunceford Orchestra, the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, the Benny Goodman Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the Artie Shaw Orchestra, and many more including of course their namesake, the Mills Blue Rhythm Band. The band also pioneers new arrangements of classic tunes written in the 1930's style by bandleader Glenn Crytzer. Saturday 8/28/10 LIVE SALSA w/ LATIN EXPRESSION 8:30p Lesson 9:30p-1:30a Dance 21+ Dance: $15 Lesson & Dance: $20 Hot Salsa! The only way to describe Latin Expression is "phenomenal". This 12-piece orchestra creates a sound complimented by flashy styles and synchronized movements. The orchestra is driven by balancing four horns, a five piece rhythm and percussion section, followed by three vocalists. This is the premier Salsa band in all the Northwest. The orchestra's repertoire includes a unique variety of merengue, bolero, cumbia, Latin Jazz, and other rhythms and styles generally encompassed by the term "salsa". Also described as "Power Salsa". Latin Expression has been playing all over the West Coast including British Columbia for over 15 years, and are now recognized as an experienced, enthusiastic compilation of professional musicians. |

This once-a-month afternoon dance features live music and plenty of good dancing on the fourth Sunday of each month. Every now and again the Valse Cafe musicians shift their focus to French and Latin waltzes, then mix in some Gypsy swing, and transport dancers to the intimate dance halls of pre-World War II Paris. They write much of their own music, and the rest comes from all over the world: the British Isles, French Canada, the Northeastern USA, Western and Eastern Europe, South America, the rest of the USA, and places they haven't yet identified. The bandleader is himself a swing dancer, which means that everything the band plays is directly focused on the dancers. Its repertoire is rooted in those of the Basie and Ellington bands, with other big-band standards and classic jazz tunes thrown in as well. |
